Diet in a puerperal period
August 7, 2012
At once after return from a maternity home the woman tries to adapt to new life as young mother. And among the whole set of the major moments it should correct a food allowance surely. The diet after the delivery is the question demanding especially careful approach as both duration of the period of recovery of young mother, and her satisfactory health, and active development of her kid depends on it.
Generally all recommendations concerning a diet in a puerperal period are based that young mother wishes to adjust a lactation and to practice breastfeeding of the baby. There are also certain discrepancies of doctors concerning recommendations on which the correct diet after the delivery is based.
The resolved and prohibited products
A number of products and dishes which young mother should not include in the menu in the first months after the birth of the kid is allocated. First of all, very strong tea, coffee, smoked dishes, chocolate products, and also all fried products and very salty food concerns to those. It is strictly forbidden to drink alcoholic drinks – both strong, and low alcohol. All these products stay under a ban throughout all time of chest feeding. In the first six months after the delivery it is necessary to follow such bans especially carefully.
More strict is the diet after the delivery in the first postnatal month. These responsible days the woman should not drink milk, is eggs, cottage cheese, tinned food. Young mother is not recommended to have a bite rich pastries, salty, fermented, acid products. Crude fruit and vegetables, all dishes from bean, cabbage stay under a ban. It is impossible to drink aerated water and kvass.
After the termination of the first month of breastfeeding these products are gradually entered into the menu. However it is extremely important to get used gradually to each new dish and a product, studying reaction of the kid to breast milk.
All above-mentioned recommendations about food in a puerperal period are based on high probability of bad reaction to certain products. So, displays of diathesis, locks and other digestive disturbances as the digestive tract of the kid only adapts to full functioning are possible. A certain group of products can excitingly influence a weak nervous system of the small child. Besides, the baby can just not like taste of milk which changes depending on what was eaten recently by mother.
Especially carefully those women who got used to eat a lot of sweet should keep to a puerperal diet. For feeding of the kid it is necessary to replace the prohibited candies and chocolates with honey, home-made jam, some types of dried fruits. But even the resolved sweets need to be dosed strictly: their excessive quantity can negatively affect a condition of mother and kid.
How to make a postnatal diet
The puerperal menu has to consist of those products and dishes which do not provoke negative reaction at the kid. Therefore, in the first weeks after the delivery the woman needs to make the menu so that in it various porridges which need to be cooked on water and without sugar prevailed. The most optimum product for newly made mother porridge from oat flakes is considered. Every day it is desirable to use dietary soups with addition of grain, boiled and stewed vegetables, low-fat fish, meat, potatoes and macaroni dishes. Young mother is recommended to prefer vegetable oil. It is possible to eat periodically firm and processed cheese, to eat a few nuts.
Addition in soups, salads and other dishes of cabbage is not allowed. But the feeding mother can use beet almost every day as substances which are in this vegetable positively influence an organism of just given rise woman. Vegetables cannot be fried at all: they are baked in an oven or extinguished on water with addition of vegetable oil. By the way, vegetables are recommended to be eaten at each of meals: they saturate the weakened organism with vitamins. Similarly prepare fish and meat dishes for young mother. But to include these rather nourishing products it is allowed only in one daily meal.
It is especially attentively necessary to treat the use of useful, but very caloric nuts. It is enough to eat several nutlets in day as the excessive hobby for any of types of nuts can become as a result the reason of a set of excess weight and it is even negative to affect a condition of the kid.
Some specialists advise women in the first months after appearance of the baby there are no berries and fruit of red color. The motivation is simple: they can cause allergic reactions. It is the best of all to be limited to gifts of the nature of green color. But nevertheless it should be noted that allergic reactions can cause in the baby also other products. Therefore each mother, using certain new it is blown, has to be always on the alert and monitor the slightest changes in a condition of the child.
Specialists claim that for support of a normal lactation the woman has to use about 800 calories every day in addition. During incubation of the kid each woman gathers a certain stock of weight thanks to which every day 300 more kilocalories are allocated for development of breast milk in an organism. Therefore, for the feeding mothers the diet after the delivery which contains no more than 2700 kilocalories a day will be optimum. At less caloric food decrease in a producing milk is possible. Besides, if the diet of young mother is badly balanced, then it is fraught with manifestation of a breakdown. As a result, the woman will not be able to maintain those loadings which are connected with care of the kid.
In view of the fact that as a part of breast milk the most part is occupied by water, the feeding woman needs to drink up to three liters of liquid every day. And here the feeding mother can begin morning from tea with milk.
Diet after Cesarean section
If the woman transferred not usual childbirth, but Cesarean section, then the diet will differ after the delivery from a food allowance of the ordinary woman in labor only in the first few days. In this case it is very important that the possibility of intestines to be emptied independently was completely recovered. The woman who spends the first day after the child's birth in chamber of maternity hospital can only drink water without gas to which it is allowed to add a little juice of a lemon. The matter is that at once after carrying out Cesarean section to the woman surely put a dropper. Therefore, she receives all nutrients, necessary for an organism, intravenously.
The second day after carrying out operation differs in more various food. If recovery goes normally, then the woman can already eat a little liquid porridge, low-fat broth, potatoes puree.
On third day after Cesarean section it is allowed to eat a little light meat of chicken, boiled low-fat fish, to drink sweet tea. On condition of lack of complications for the fourth day after the performed operation the woman can already eat all products which are allowed mothers feeding the child with breast milk.
It is important that the young mother who transferred Cesarean section surely used those dishes and products which stimulate an intestines peristaltics: these are beet, carrots salads, prunes.
During recovery after operation it is necessary to use food fractionally, not less than six times a day. The woman can already not limit herself in drink, using rather weak, a little sweetened tea, kissel, tea from a dogrose, compote from dried fruits.
After Cesarean section the woman has to approach recovery especially elaborately and consciously. Therefore at desire to eat a certain product in the first days after operation it is the best of all for it to consult to the doctor about expediency of his inclusion in a diet. In the next days it is important not to use that food which provokes emergence both diarrheas, and locks.
Puerperal diet and weight loss
It is quite clear that each woman wants to grow thin and return to former proportions as soon as possible. Extra kilos remain after the delivery with most of women. It is put by the nature therefore it is necessary to correct quantity of the consumed food and it is obligatory to carry out physical exercises.
For the woman who just returned from a maternity home it is important to provide better nutrition. Therefore for six weeks after the delivery the rigid diet is contraindicated. On the expiration of this period it is possible to treat a food allowance more captiously. But in general young mother just should not abuse high-calorific dishes and exceed the recommended number of calories a day.
The diet in a puerperal period, of course, may contain fat-containing dishes. But at the same time the amount of fats should not exceed a quarter of the general caloric content of the day menu. In general the feeding mother should not consume more than 50 g of refined fat a day. To orient what amount of fats we consume every day, it is necessary to know that one tablespoon of vegetable oil will contain about 10 g of fats, and in a tile of milk chocolate – 70 g of fats.
In the course of long feeding of the kid breast milk the woman who does not exceed admissible norms of calories and does not abuse sweet and fat products gradually loses extra kilos due to process of a lactation.
Necessary vitamins and microelements
The correct diet in a puerperal period has to fill, except other, a lack of useful substances of a female organism. It is extremely important to fill up reserves of the calcium lost during pre-natal development of the kid. Therefore in several weeks after the delivery it is already possible to enter gradually resolved dairy products into the menu. Besides, a lot of calcium oranges and cabbage, especially contain broccoli. Right after childbirth mothers who for certain reasons do not feed the baby with breast milk can use these products. And here it is better for the feeding women to wait a little with such products a little. Sometimes doctors strongly recommend the patients who recently gave birth to the child to accept drugs which contain calcium. But it is desirable to accept kaltsiysoderzhashchy means for more intensive assimilation of this element with magnesium, zinc and vitamin D. By the way, this vitamin is very important not only for mother, but also for the kid. A lot of vitamin D is in fish, eggs, dairy products.
Ideally developed and perfect diet for young mother does not exist: it is important to select independently suitable products and to make the menu. Therefore the main rule of a puerperal diet – to use exclusively useful products which will help to recover quicker forces, to look after actively the newborn and to return to a prenatal state.
