Structure

Otrivinum, as active ingredient, is included into structure of 1 ml of drops and spray 0,5 mg or 1 mg of xylomethazolinum of a hydrochloride.

Auxiliary ingredients of drops and spray: dihydrophosphate a sodium dihydrate, edetat dinatrium, hydrophosphate sodium dodecahydrate, a benzalkoniya chloride, sorbitol, sodium chloride, a gipromelloza 4000, the purified water (in addition for spray with menthol and an eucalyptus – left menthol and eucalyptole).

Release form

The remedy Otrivinum is made in the form of 0,1% or 0,05% of drops and the dosed spray on 10 ml in packaging.

Pharmacological action

Vasoconstrictive, antikongestivny.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Xylomethazolinum is the medicine relating to group of decongestants which possess local vasoconstrictive efficiency owing to what are widely applied in the LOR-expert. The action expressed alpha adrenomimeticheskoye is inherent in drug. Topical administration of xylomethazolinum in relation to mucous a nose and a nasopharynx leads to narrowing in them of blood vessels, and also elimination of a hyperemia and puffiness and, as a result, to simplification of nasal breath at the painful states proceeding with a nose congestion (rhinitises).

Xylomethazolinum differs balanced rn, characteristic of a nasal cavity and is rather well transferred by patients with sensitive mucous membranes. Antikongestivny effect of drug does not interfere with an otkhozhdeniye of nasal slime.

Additional ingredients of drops and spray – a gipromelloz and sorbitol – act as means of additional moistening that allows to reduce manifestations of dryness and irritation of the mucous membranes which are observed at long use of xylomethazolinum.

The left menthol and eucalyptole included in composition of spray with menthol and an eucalyptus possess the cooling and refreshing action.

Use of drug in therapeutic dosages does not cause a hyperemia and does not lead to irritation of mucous. Pharmacological efficiency of xylomethazolinum is noted in several (3-5) minutes after its local use and is observed for 12 hours.

Absorption of xylomethazolinum at its topical administration actually aims at zero, and its plasma contents so is not enough that is not subject to definition by means of the existing analytical methods.

Indications to use

Use of drops or spray Otrivinum is shown at:

• observed average otitis (for the purpose of decrease in puffiness mucous nasopharynxes);
• the diagnosed ORZ proceeding with displays of rhinitis (cold);
• eustachites;
• acute rhinitises of an allergic etiology;
• allergic seasonal rinokonjyunktivita;
• sinusitis;

Contraindications

Purpose of any of pharmacological forms of Otrivinum contraindicated at:

• atrophic rhinitis;
• arterial hypertension;
• hyperthyroidism;
• tachycardias;
• states after carrying out a transsphenoidal hypophysectomy;
• the expressed atherosclerosis;
• surgeries on brain covers (in the anamnesis);
• to glaucoma;
• the increased personal sensitivity to HP ingredients;
• aged till 1st year (for 0,05% of drugs), till 12 years (for 0,1% of drugs).

With extra care purpose of any of dosage forms of Otrivinum is possible at:

• pregnancies;
• diabetes mellitus;
• feeding by a breast;
• cardiovascular pathologies;
• to prostate adenoma;
• the hypersensitivity to effects of adrenergic drugs proceeding with increase of the ABP, sleeplessness, arrhythmia, dizziness, a tremor.

Side effects

Application instruction of Otrivinum

Drops Otrivinum, application instruction

Before use of drops it is necessary to clear carefully the nasal courses for what recommend to use means in the form of the clearing spray containing sea water, for example Otrivinum to Mora.

Drop Otrivinum in a nose of 0,1% are intended for treatment of the patients who reached 12 years. Disposable in each nasal pass it is possible to dig 2-4 drops. In days it is possible to carry out such procedure of an instillation no more than 3 times. The therapeutic course should not exceed 10 days.

The instruction children's in the form of 0,05% of drops recommends their use for therapy of children of 1-12 years for Otrivinum, under control of adults. At the age of 1-6 flyings 1-2 one-time instillation of 1-2 drops in each nasal pass, with a duration of treatment which is not exceeding 7 days are shown a day. At the age of 6-12 it is possible to dig in children's Otrivinum on 2-4 drops in each nasal pass 2-3 times at 24 o'clock. Duration of treatment should be limited for 7-10 days.

Spray Otrivinum, application instruction

Also as well as when using drops, before use of spray Mora needs to clear the nasal courses by means of spray Otrivinum or other similar drug containing sea water.

To patients is more senior than 12 years recommend to use 0,1% spray. In each nasal pass, with a frequency no more than 3 times a day, make on one injection. Duration of therapy should not exceed 10 days.

Spray for children of 0,05% is shown to appointment from 1st to 12 years, under control of adults. Recommend to children of 1-6 years 1 procedure of injection in each nasal pass, with a frequency of 1-2 times of 24 hours. Patients of 6-12 years can carry out single injections to each nasal pass 2-3 times a day. It is better to limit duration of treatment for 7 days.

Overdose

At use of the overestimated dosages of Otrivinum or its use throughout time which was more recommended by the instruction, emergence of side effects inherent in drug or strengthening of already observed negative phenomena is possible: pulse increase, increase of the ABP, occasionally – confusion of consciousness.

The carried-out treatment of similar complications has to correspond to noted negative symptoms.

Interaction

The remedies containing xylomethazolinum should not be used when carrying out therapy by tricyclic antidepressants or MAO inhibitors.

Topical administration of xylomethazolinum can potentially influence effects of some hypotensive drugs, for example β-adrenoblockers..........

Storage conditions

It is necessary to store any of pharmaceutical forms of drug at a temperature of air up to 25 °C.

Period of validity

Special instructions

Both drops, and spray Otrivinum should not be used for more than 10 days in a row. Excessive and/or long use of drug can become the reason of forming of congestive reactive effects and/or atrophies nasal mucous.

It is necessary to carry out purpose of this medicine with care concerning the patients who are strongly reacting to effects of adrenergic drugs including displays of sleeplessness, increase in the ABP, a tremor, dizziness, cardiac arrhythmia.

It is necessary to avoid exceeding of the recommended Otrivinum dosages, in particular when carrying out therapy of elderly patients and children.

Careful purpose of drug is demanded by the patients having cardiovascular pathologies, a diabetes mellitus, an arterial hypertension, a pheochromocytoma, prostate adenoma, a porphyria and pathologies of a thyroid gland.

The bottle with drops or spray is intended only for use by one patient, because of possible distribution of an infection.

Benzalkoniya the chloride included in composition of drug can irritate nasal mucous membranes.
